Louis Francois Cartier was the founder of Cartier in Paris in 1847.

Cartier is one of the most known luxury watch brands in the world. The first Tank watch was created in 1917. It was inspired with a simple idea of four lines, with two parallel shafts made from gold or platinum. The tank in its square shape was considered a revolutionary timeless design that forever changed the world of watchmaking.

In 1926 The Tank made its first appearance on the big screen. Rudolph Valentino insisted on wearing his Tank in  the movie "The Son of the Sheikh".

In 1928 was the creation of the Tank "a Guichets" which featured an analog display.

In 1933 the Tank Basculante was introduced. It was created for a specific client,  who required a watch with a bezel and a dial protecting against damage while playing golf or polo.

In 1952 The Tank Rectangle was a reflection of 1950s opulence.

In 1963 The Tank Oblique came alive with its off-kilter dial. This  particular model was inspired from an earlier model, The Asymétrique.

In 2012 the Tank Anglaise with  its winding crown  enclosed in the case brancard.
